Canada, India row highlights Khalistan issue
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali: The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the House of Commons on Monday (9/18) that, in recent weeks, national security authorities had been probing allegations that New Delhi was behind a state-sponsored assassination. “Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty. On June 18 Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, British Columbia. Nijjar had campaigned for an independent Sikh nation – known as Khalistan – to be carved out of India’s Punjab state. Pakistan Supreme Court restores corruption cases against public office holders
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali: Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Friday struck down amendments to the country’s accountability law, and ordered restoration of all corruption cases against public office holders that had been dropped after the changes. The judgment came on a plea filed by former prime minister Imran Khan last year, challenging the amendments brought in by the previous Shehbaz Sharif government. The ruling could have far-reaching implications as it would restore graft cases against the country’s political bigwigs, including former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, ex-president Asif Ali Zardari and former prime ministers Yusuf Raza Gilani, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Raja Pervez Ashraf. It purports to weaken and eventually destroy secular and civilian governmental institutions, while also contributing to vilifying Islam. 22 years on, Muslims still face hate, discrimination over Sept. 11
Anadolu Agency: The U.S. Muslim community still lives under the shadow of hate and discrimination that found its way into the country over two decades ago in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. "After 22 years, unfortunately, Islamophobia has taken root and become part of the structure of racism that exists in parts of our country," said Hussam Ayloush, chief executive officer of the California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA). Ayloush told Anadolu that nearly 1 million of the estimated 5 million Muslims living in the U.S. reside in the state of California and pointed out that harassment and prejudice against the Muslim community remain prevalent decades after 9/11. "More than 50% of Muslim students in California face some form of verbal and physical bullying at public schools just for being Muslim," said Ayloush. G20 Summit concludes without condemning Russia for Ukrain war
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali: The G20 Summit held in India on Saturday eventually adopted a joint declaration with a neutral stance on the Ukraine war, which caused rising divergences among the members. The joint declaration this year shows no direct condemnation of Russia over the Ukraine crisis, which is different from the one in 2022. Interestingly, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not attend the New Delhi summit. Read More

Russia strengthens ties with African military juntas calling to expel French troops
By Athiyan Silva, Alex Lantier: A week ago, a Russian delegation led by Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov visited Burkina Faso and met with the head of the military junta, Ibrahim Traoré. Russia has not had a formal diplomatic presence in Burkina Faso since 1992, when the Soviet embassy closed as the Stalinist bureaucracy dissolved the Soviet Union. After meeting with Traoré, Yevkurov told reporters they had discussed military aid, nuclear energy and economic ties. He said, “We will do our best to help you develop in all these spheres. I have already reminded your president of this. In the field of military cooperation, we will discuss the training format of your cadets and officers of different levels, including pilots, in our country.” Read More

G-20 summit hints at end of unipolar world
Daily Sabah: According to Hüsamettin Inaç, a professor at the International Relations Department of Dumlupınar Üniversitesi in Türkiye, the summit is coming at a time when the U.S.-led unipolar world order set after the World War II is no longer dominant. After Ukraine, new 'theater of conflict' has emerged in Africa
BY MELIH ALTINOK: Over the past three years, Africa has witnessed a series of political upheavals, with countries like Burkina Faso, Mali, Sudan, Niger, the Central African Republic, Guinea, and most recently Gabon, experiencing military takeovers. It appears that more such events may be on the horizon. Describing these incidents as mere "military coups" may not be entirely accurate, as the ousted governments in these countries were often propped up by the military might of foreign powers, raising questions about their civilian legitimacy. For instance, in the case of Gabon, where France called for "respect for democracy" following the recent coup, the country has been under the control of a family with deep ties to France for the past 60 years. Lawyers’ launch campaign against Pakistan Army
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali: Amid continued flouting of Pakistan Supreme Court and High Court orders by the army-backed government, lawyers of Pakistan have launched a campaign against the Army. Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) Thursday called a convention to address the prevailing constitutional crisis. The speakers, one after another, emphasized that currently there is no rule of law in the country as the constitution has been suspended practically. The speakers pointed out that in the past the military rulers have formally suspended the constitution, however, the present army Chief of Staff, General Asim Munir, has in practice suspended the constitution without declaring so. Modi’s lesson from Israel: Demolish Muslim homes, erase their history

Hindu right-wing groups in Haryana followed up the violence with calls to boycott Muslim businesses and for Hindu-owned businesses to fire Muslim employees. Before the demolition drive, clashes broke out between Hindu and Muslim groups in Nuh when a procession led by the far-right Hindu organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad reached the district. PTI: The addition of six new members to the BRICS grouping will see it controlling 46 per cent of the world's population and 30 per cent of its economic output, according to a research paper.
