Iran's air defenses foil multiple Israeli attacks on military bases
Al Mayadeen's correspondent has confirmed that there were no Israeli attacks on vital infrastructure in Iran, early on Saturday.
Israeli warplanes launched an aggression on Iran, as explosions were heard in several areas, including the capital Tehran, early on Saturday. Attacks renewed at around 4:30 am, as footage circulated of several successful interceptions near the capital.
The Israeli military command confirmed that its Air Force is conducting strikes on "military targets" in Iran.
It also warned Israeli settlers, urging them to remain "alert and vigilant," in a statement.
At least three explosions were heard near Tehran, Al Mayadeen's correspondent in Iran reported.
Later, our correspondent said that Israeli warplanes attempted to target three bases in Tehran Province, which includes multiple counties. However, Iranian air defenses were able to intercept the incoming attack.
Our correspondent slammed reports about strikes on the Imam Khomeini International Airport and energy facilities as false. However, explosions were heard in the city of Eslamshahr, south of the capital city, Tehran.
Later, footage shared from inside the facility showed normal activity.
Al Mayadeen's correspondent noted that the sounds of explosions heard in Tehran were related to air defense activities, adding that the situation in the Iranian capital is completely stable.
Iranian air defenses successfully intercepted hostile targets aimed at military bases in the southern and western parts of Tehran Province, outside the capital city itself, our correspondent pointed out.
Sources confirmed to Al Mayadeen that the Imam Khomeini International Airport and the Mehrabad International Airport were not targeted.
Air defenses foil second wave of Israeli attacks
Hours after the first attack was launched, another wave of aerial targets was detected over Iran, at around 4:30 am. Medium-range air defenses were activated to shoot down all hostile objects over Tehran, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported.
Footage also circulated of successful interceptions over eastern areas in the Tehran province.
Later, informed sources revealed that multiple Israeli drones were launched toward Iranian air defense bases in eastern Tehran, only to be shot down.
Iran’s foreign ministry said it was "entitled and obligated to defend itself" and described the attack as a violation of international law. But it also said that Tehran recognizes its "responsibilities towards regional peace and security".
Biden watches closely
Meanwhile, Sean Savett, White House National Security Council spokesperson, told Al Mayadeen that the US is not taking part in the Israeli attack against Iran, adding that President Joe Biden was informed of the attack and is closely monitoring the situation.
Moreover, a US military official also told Al Mayadeen that the United States was informed in advance of the Israeli airstrikes.
The Israeli aggression on Iran comes after the Israeli regime threatened a large-scale attack on the country after the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) launched 200 ballistic missiles on Israeli sites.
On October 1, 2024, the IRGC responded to multiple Israeli crimes in the region, including the assassination of Hamas leader, martyr Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, Hezbollah Secratry-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the IRGC's Deputy Commander for Operations, Brigadier General Abbas Nilforooshan, who was killed alongside Sayyed Nasrallah.
Multiple Israeli Air Force bases were struck, as confirmed by satellite images. Furthermore, Israeli air defenses failed to respond to the large-scale response, where nearly 90% of the missiles struck their targets.
'Israel' announces an end to its aggression
At around 6:00 am (local time) the Israeli military command announced an end to its aggression on Iran, saying that its operations which involved dozens of aircraft were successful.
The military command alleged that the results of the attacks will be "revealed in time."

Two Iranian soldiers martyred; Iran maintains right to self-defense
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly denounced "Israel's" recent attack on Iranian territory as a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Two Iranian soldiers were martyred while confronting the projectiles of the criminal Zionist regime in order to defend the security of Iran and prevent harm to the nation and the interests of the country, the Iranian Army announced.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement following the Israeli attack on Iranian territory, condemning the Zionist regime's aggression and calling it a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly the principle prohibiting threats or use of force against a nation's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The statement emphasized that Iran, in accordance with its inherent right to self-defense as outlined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, considered it both justified and necessary to protect itself from foreign aggression.
It also reiterated Iran's commitment to using all available resources, both material and spiritual, to safeguard its national security and vital interests. The Ministry expressed gratitude to peace-seeking nations in the region and worldwide for condemning "Israel's" hostile actions.
The statement further noted that the ongoing Israeli occupation, illegal activities, and crimes in the region, particularly the genocide against Palestinians and attacks on Lebanon, are the primary causes of tension and instability.
These actions, the Ministry argued, persist under the military and political support of the United States and other Western nations.
Furthermore, the Ministry called on all UN member states, signatories of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and the 1949 Geneva Conventions to take urgent collective measures to address the blatant Israeli violations of international law and the UN Charter.
On his part, the spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Ebrahim Rezaei said the Israelis are "too weak to seriously harm Greater Iran."
"The Zionist enemy is like small money(coins), it only makes noise but has no value and effect," he wrote on his X account.
"Zionists are too weak to seriously harm Greater Iran," Rezaei affirmed.

Iranian reaction to Israeli attack
The official IRNA news agency reported that Iran’s foreign ministry said the country was “entitled and duty-bound to defend itself against the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression”.
It added that the Iranian air defence command said the airstrikes were “intercepted and countered successfully”. “As per the inherent right to legitimate defence, which is enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, Iran is duty-bound and entitled to defend itself against foreign acts of aggression,” it further said.
The statement said that Iran categorically condemned the “Zionist regime’s aggressive action” against several military centres in Iran, considering it a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, especially the principle of prohibiting threats or resorting to force against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of countries.
“As emphasised by the relevant authorities of the Islamic Republic, the foreign ministry said, based on the inherent right to legitimate defence, which is also enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran is entitled and duty-bound to defend itself against the Israeli aggression.
“Calling for maximising all its material and spiritual capabilities to defend its security and vital interests and recognising its duties toward regional peace and stability, the Islamic Republic reminds the regional countries of their individual and collective responsibility to safeguard peace and stability in the region,” the statement noted.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran was determined to defend itself.
“I think we’ve shown that our determination to defend ourselves knows no limits,” Araghchi said in an interview with the official website of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The minister’s comments were the first by a senior Iranian official since the pre-dawn strikes.
“We will defend our territory and our homeland,” Araghchi said. “I think everyone has already seen that. “
Israel targeted some military sites in Syria’s central and southern parts with airstrikes early on Saturday, Syrian state news agency Sana reported.
Iran’s military said only radar systems were damaged in pre-dawn Israeli strikes on Tehran and other provinces.
“Thanks to the timely performance of the country’s air defences, the attacks caused limited damage and a few radar systems were damaged,” the armed forces general staff said in a statement read out on state television.

'Showoff', 'weak': Israeli media, officials ridicule attack on Iran
The recent attack on Iran has been largely a showoff that failed to achieve any strategic objectives, as per Israeli media.
Israeli media outlets have cast doubt on the effectiveness of the recent Israeli attack on Iran, describing it as a largely symbolic move that failed to achieve any significant strategic goals. Reports from Kan and other sources highlighted a growing sense of dissatisfaction within "Israel" regarding the operation's limited impact.
Arab Affairs correspondent Roy Kays suggested that if he were in [Sayyed Ali] Khamenei's position, he would get back to sleep and assess the situation regarding the attack on Iran the following morning.
The recent attack on Iran was largely a showoff that failed to achieve any strategic objectives, as per Israeli media.
Furthermore, media reports suggested that the limited response to Iran was politically motivated, designed to reassure Prime Minister Netanyahu's supporters that action had been taken.
Israeli media figure Rami Yitzhar, once a senior officer in the Israeli military police, believed that the attack on Iran, which he described as "minuscule and weak,” was a political trick by Netanyahu to show his supporters that he had done something against Tehran.
Commenting on the “explosive" statement of the Israeli army spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, about the attack, Yitzhar said it was “to some extent full of elements of false self-glorification, but his (Hagari’s) body language proves that he understands that it was just a show” and that “the sole purpose of this action was political: to show Netanyahu’s voters that we did something, and that is all.”
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that former Mossad Intelligence Division chief Brigadier General (Res.) Amnon Sofrin warned that Iran possesses the capability to launch a highly potent operation against "Israel".
Lapid, Liberman criticize Israeli response to Iran
Israeli Kan 11's political affairs commentator, Gili Cohen, reported on the initial political reactions to the attack on Iran, highlighting a harsh criticism from opposition leader Yair Lapid.
Lapid bashed the Israeli response, stressing it lacked sufficient force and significance. He labeled the decision not to strike strategic and economic targets as "misguided", insisting that Iran should have faced much harsher consequences.
"The decision not to attack strategic and economic targets in Iran was a mistake. We could and should have imposed a much heavier price on Iran," Lapid said in a post on X.
Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman said "Israel", with today's attack, failed to “exact a real price” from the Islamic Republic.
“We cannot ignore the hard reality and the fact that the Iranians won’t stop here. They’ll continue their efforts to obtain nuclear weapons and they’ll continue to transfer the funds from the sale of oil and gas to Hezbollah, the Houthis, the Shiite militias, and various proxies,” the hawkish veteran politician says in a post on X.
He accused the government of being “once again content with showmanship” and called for "Israel" to “act in a way that reflects our strength — rather than just talking about it.”
In a related context, Cohen reported that when the US administration advised "Israel" to adopt a moderate approach in Lebanon, specifically urging against prolonged attacks in the Southern Suburb, Prime Minister Netanyahu complied.
However, he did not apply the same restraint in Rafah, despite US requests for moderation regarding Iran. While Netanyahu has followed certain directives from the US, including the deployment of interceptor missiles and air defense systems, he stressed that Israel is "not alone in this."
Critical error: Failure to target Iranian oil reserves
Criticism has also arisen from within Prime Minister Netanyahu's coalition. Knesset member Tali Gottlieb from the Likud party remarked that failing to target Iranian nuclear facilities would lead to regret for generations to come. She labeled the choice not to attack Iranian oil reserves as a "grave mistake", emphasizing that Iran has jeopardized Israeli security by launching missiles across the entity.
"We squandered the chance to undermine Iran's potential to become a nuclear power for many years," Gottlieb contended.
Israeli media have reported that reactions to the recent Israeli attack on Iran include skepticism from the Arab world, where commentators suggest that "they are laughing at us." The reports emphasized a prevailing belief that the true implications of the situation will become clearer over time.

Widespread condemnations of Israeli attack on Iran
Condemnations have been pouring in against "Israel's" latest attack on Iranian land and sovereignty.
International and regional condemnations poured in following the Israeli aggression on Iran, calling it a violation of international law and Iranian sovereignty and slamming the attack as a provocation.
During the early hours of Saturday, the Israeli occupation launched an aerial aggression against Iran, targeting its military facilities and bases. Preliminary reports and indications coined the attack as "weak", as minimal damage was inflicted.
Iran has long warned "Israel" against any violation of its sovereignty, but amid the aggression, Iran's defenses were able to not only intercept the attack but also successfully thwart it and fully defend its territory.

The attack was a “blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a clear breach of international law,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Its statement expressed “deep concern regarding the serious repercussions that may result from this escalation” and urged all parties “to exercise restraint, resolve disputes through dialogue and peaceful means, and avoid anything that could destabilize security and stability in the region”.
The ministry reiterated a call for the international community to intensify efforts aimed at de-escalation and “ending the suffering of the peoples of the region, particularly in Gaza and Lebanon”.
Oman
Oman strongly decried the aggression on Iran as a blatant breach of its sovereignty and a flagrant violation of international law.
Yemen
The Sanaa government expressed its solidarity with the people and the Republic of Iran, affirming that the Israeli aggression came as a result of Tehran's firm stance and defense of the people of Lebanon and Palestine.
"Iran's position on the Palestinian cause is clear, and its support for the Resistance against the Israeli occupation and aggression serves as a beacon of hope for the peoples of the region."
The Israeli aggression on Iran, according to Yemen, was a desperate attempt to divert attention from its heinous and terrorist crimes against the people of Gaza.
On his part, the member of the Yemeni Supreme Political Council, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, condemned the Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing Yemen's confidence that it will not affect Iran or its stance on supporting the Palestinian cause.
Iraq
The Iraqi government spokesperson slammed the Israeli aggression on Iran as part of its systematic expansion of its crimes throughout the region, this time reaching the Islamic Republic, without any accountability.
The Iraqi government condemned the attack and extended its support to the people and the Republic of Iran.
On his part, Sayyed Muqtada al-Sadr said the bombardment of Iran by the Zionist entity, while an attack on a sovereign state, is too despicable and small to be condemned.
"The weakness of the response reveals the extent of the confusion and deep anxiety the Israeli entity is mired in," he added.
Syria
Syria condemned in the strongest terms the blatant Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing its solidarity and support for Iran in the face of the aggression it is being subjected to.
“The Syrian Arab Republic condemns in the strongest terms the blatant Israeli aggression that took place on Saturday at dawn against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which coincided with a brutal air aggression against Syria, in a blatant violation of the sovereignty and sanctity of Iranian and Syrian territories, and a flagrant breach of international law and the United Nations Charter," Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The statement added, “Syria stresses that this Israeli aggression comes in the context of this entity's disregard for all international laws and its insistence on its ongoing criminal aggressive approach against the countries of the region, and the war of genocide and war crimes it is committing against their peoples.”
“The Syrian Arab Republic supports Iran's legitimate right to defend itself, protect its territories and the lives of its citizens, which is guaranteed by international laws, and expresses its strong solidarity and support for it in the face of the aggression it is being subjected to,” it asserted.
Bahrain
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli occupation's attack on Iran, expressing deep concern over the escalating tensions and ongoing military operations in the Middle East. In a statement, the ministry called for an immediate ceasefire and emphasized the need to protect civilians, particularly in Gaza and southern Lebanon, in light of the ongoing Israeli onslaught.
Jordan
Jordan condemned the attack on Iran, saying it represents a serious escalation that drives further tensions in the region and warned against slipping into a conflict that threatens regional stability and international security.
Additionally, a Jordanian military source stressed that Jordan did not allow the passage of any military aircraft through its airspace, as cited by the Petra news outlet.
Lebanon
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it condemns the airstrikes launched by "Israel" at dawn today in the Islamic Republic of Iran
"These attacks constitute a violation of Iran's sovereignty and a serious threat to regional and international security and peace," it added, calling on international institutions, especially the United Nations Security Council, to assume their responsibilities in putting an end to the Israeli escalation in the region.
Algeria
Likewise, Algeria's Foreign Ministry issued a strong statement denouncing the Israeli attack and extended solidarity with Iran, describing the aggression as a “blatant violation of Iran's sovereignty."
Indonesia
Indonesia's Foreign Ministry released a similar statement, stressing that "such escalations and expansions of conflicts constitute a clear violation of international law."
Malaysia
The Malaysian Foreign Ministry stated that while the damages were still being assessed, the Israeli attack constituted a blatant breach of international law that aimed to undermine regional stability.
Denouncing "Israel's" ongoing regional aggression, which has so far been committed with full impunity and without any accountability, Malaysia confirmed that its actions risk the outbreak of a wider conflict that could destabilize the West Asian region.
It further called for restraint and an "immediate cessation of hostilities and an end to the cycle of violence."
Russia
Moscow is deeply concerned over the ongoing escalation between "Israel" and Iran that threatens regional stability and security, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Saturday.
"We are deeply concerned about the ongoing explosive escalation between Israel and the Islamic Republic [of Iran], which poses real threats to stability and security in the region," Zakharova said in a statement published by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Russia is ready to work with all parties to reduce the level of confrontation in the Middle East, the spokeswoman also said, adding that Moscow urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and cease the violence.
United States
President Joe Biden said it appeared Israel had only struck military targets in its attack on Iran, and that he hoped they were “the end.”
US National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett urged “Iran to cease its attacks on Israel so that this cycle of fighting can end without further escalation”.
“Their response was an exercise in self-defence and specifically avoided populated areas and focused solely on military targets, contrary to Iran’s attack against Israel that targeted Israel’s most populous city,” he added.
Stressing that the US did not participate in the operation, Savett said “it is our aim to accelerate diplomacy and de-escalate tensions in the Middle East region”.
Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder posted on social media platform X that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke to his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant and “reaffirmed the ironclad commitment of the US to Israel’s security and right to self-defense”.
United Nations
Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he was “deeply alarmed” by the escalation of violence in the Middle East, adding that all acts of escalation in the region are condemnable and must stop.
Guterres “urgently reiterates his appeal to all parties to cease all military actions, including in Gaza and Lebanon,” his spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement, calling for “maximum efforts to prevent an all-out regional war and return to the path of diplomacy.”
Egypt
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it “condemns all actions that threaten the security and stability of the region”.
In a statement, it said: “Egypt stresses its position that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip should be reached quickly within the framework of a deal through which hostages are released given that it is the only way to de-escalate.”
Turkey
“Israel, which is committing genocide in Gaza, preparing to annex the West Bank, and killing civilians every day in Lebanon, has now brought our region to the brink of a wider war with this attack,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
“It is now clear that putting an end to Israeli terror in the region has become a historic task to ensure international security and peace,” it added in a statement, which called on the international community to “take immediate action to enforce the law and stop the [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu government”.
“We do not want any further war, violence, or lawlessness in our region,” it said.
Germany
Chancellor Olaf Scholz posted on X: “My message to Iran is clear: massive escalating reactions must not continue. These must stop immediately. Only then can we open the possibility of a peaceful evolution in the Middle East.”
United Kingdom
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, “I am clear that Israel has the right to defend itself against Iranian aggression. I’m equally clear that we need to avoid further regional escalation and urge all sides to show restraint. Iran should not respond.”
France
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged “all parties to abstain from any escalation and action that could worsen the extremely tense context in the region”.
Pakistan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks “undermine [the] path to regional peace and stability and also constitute a dangerous escalation in an already volatile region,” adding that “Israel bears full responsibility for the current cycle of escalation and expansion of the conflict in the region”.
It also called on the UN Security Council “to take immediate steps to bring an end to Israeli recklessness in the region and its criminal behaviour”.
Palestinian Resistance factions
Hamas
Hamas strongly denounced the Israeli aggression and violation, while praising Iran's air defenses, readiness, and repulsion of the attack.
The Resistance movement reiterated its solidarity with Iran and its people in the face of Israeli arrogance and recklessness, hailing the Republic's brave stances and extension of support for the Palestinian people.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad
The PIJ considered the Israeli attack a "blatant attack on the peoples of our nation and region and a serious threat to their security," as well as a failed attempt to break the Resistance forces in the region, saying such acts would only magnify their strength and resolve.
Palestinian Resistance Committees
According to the Palestinian Resistance Committees, the attack reveals "the incapacity of the zionist entity and its hesitancy to confront Iran after the two operations of "True Promise". It is now fearful, confused, and panicked, having lost the deterrence balance it has boasted about since the establishment of its temporary state."
The Committees further affirmed that Iran's successful thwarting of the attack, not to mention the significant failure of the zionist aggression in achieving its goals, despite extensive intelligence efforts and unlimited support from the enemies of the nation within the American administration, the oppressive West, and certain normalization states, marks a new phase characterized by the end of Zionist hegemony and superiority on all fronts.
Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) stressed that this aggression, conducted in coordination with the United States, has failed to achieve its objectives. It confirmed that Iran has solidified its presence and stance as a deterrent to the criminal enemy in defense of its people and the region's peoples.
The statement read, "War criminal Netanyahu sought to launch this aggression and then amplify its results to satisfy the zionist public and to display power by expanding his crimes in the region," which comes especially after the occupation and its allies admitted their failure to weaken the Axis of Resistance, while Iran continues its supportive stance for resistance in Gaza and Lebanon.
Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) condemned the Israeli airstrikes, calling them "brutal and expansionist," and accused the Israeli occupation of waging a destructive campaign against the peoples of Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran.
The DFLP also criticized the US for its political support of the Israeli regime, asserting that Washington’s endorsement encourages the occupation's "wars of aggression" across the region. This support, the group argued, aims to subjugate Middle Eastern nations to American interests and undermine regional aspirations for independence and sovereignty.
Fatah
The Fatah movement affirmed that one of the objectives of this aggression was Netanyahu's attempt to reposition himself after a series of failures since October 7 and to present the entity as strong and capable of responding to any party.
"However, reality proved otherwise, exposing Netanyahu's deception to the settlers, with his claims following this attack being nothing more than empty media marketing without value on the ground," the statement read, further condemning the attack and extending its support to Iran and its appreciation for its stances.
